City College of New York baseball player Raymie Fernandez was named one of CCNY's two Athletes of the Week for the period of Monday, April 4th through Sunday, April 10th.
On Saturday evening, April 9th, Fernandez played terrifically in a doubleheader against the Lightning in which the Beavers split the pair of conference games. In City College’s game one, 7-6 loss, the New York, NY native finished the game 2-for-4 at the dish with a homerun, a run scored, and three runs batted in. In the nightcap, he paced CCNY’s 11-3 victory with a homerun, a double, three runs scored, three runs batted in, and a stolen base.
The following day, the senior was right in the middle of a come-from-behind victory for CCNY, as the Beavers rallied back from a 5-1 deficit to derail the Lightning, 10-7. In that game, Fernandez finished 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a run batted in, and a stolen base. Following the announcement of Fernandez as CUNY’s Player of the Week, head coach Grant Neary gave his thoughts.
Fernandez currently leads the Beavers with a .325 batting average, while also topping all CCNY players with 39 total bases, eight doubles, and a .506 slugging percentage. He also boasts an on-base percentage of .442, and he also has 17 runs batted in, a pair of homeruns, and 25 hits.
