Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize patient and client activity and participation in athletics, work, and life. The practice of athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, sub-acute, and chronic neuromusculoskeletal conditions and certain medical conditions in order to minimize subsequent impairments, functional limitations, and disability.

Philosophy
The philosophy of the Athletic Training program is as follows:
  1. Provide Quality Athletic Training services, which include, but are not limited to, prevention, evaluation, and treatment of injuries and illnesses, rehabilitation services, pre-participation exams, year-round Strength and Condition programs, nutritional counseling, psychological counseling, and drug education and counseling to student-athletes.
  2. Provide a sound learning and bias-free environment for student-athletes.
  3. Support the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) efforts to promote the athletic training profession.
  4. Provide continual communication between the student-athletes, coach, and athletic administration regarding any and all athletic training-related matters.
