The City College of New York men's soccer team became the 2015 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Champions with a 2-1 (2OT) victory over the No.1 seeded College of Staten Island. The Beavers have not claimed the CUNYAC Championship trophy since 2005.
The entire match was an intense matchup as the conference foes battled for the trophy. It was City who struck first in the seventh minute.
Syed Haider headed the ball into the goal off a throw in from
Anthony Scarallo. City continued to maintain control of the first half and left the Dolphins scoreless to go into halftime up 1-0.
CSI took control in the second half as they fought hard to become Champions. CCNY was able to hold them off until the 60' where they tied it up 1-1. The entirety of the match was back and forth between the conference foes.
With the weight of a conference championship on their shoulders, both teams wanted a victory and fought hard to pick up the game-winning goal. With both teams playing with an intensity of a conference championship headed into overtime.
Overtime was just as intense as the first 90 minutes. The match headed to double overtime because neither team wanted to go home runner up.
Mostafa Haridi picked up the game-winning goal that punched CCNY's ticket to the NCAA.
