Men's Soccer Early Surge Falls Short at Maritime

The City College of New York men's soccer team fell 4-3 in a close battle to Maritime in Throggs Neck, New York.

The Beavers (1-1-0) opened up the match with a goal at the 9:27 mark. The goal came from an assist from Mostafa Haridi that was a chip pass to Stephanos Hondrakis where he was able to score on a soft touch. City added to their lead at the 17:00 minute mark to take a 2-0 lead. Haridi crossed the ball over the Abdul Rashid Abdulai and he knocked it into the goal. Maritime (1-1-0) responded by scoring at the 30:42 mark. With the lead only 2-1, the Beavers added another goal at the 38:59 mark to give them a 3-1 lead. The goal came from an assist by Spiratos who had a long pass from midfield to Kenan Redzematovic. CCNY went into the locker room with a 3-1 lead.

The Privateers struck first in the second half to cut CCNY's lead 3-2. Maritime continued their second half dominance and tied the score 3-3 with a goal at the 85:25 mark. The Privateers took the first lead of the match with a goal by Brett Reilly at the 87:25 mark. The last goal by Reilly put the Privateers over the Beavers for the win.

Maxwell Berkow put up 5 saves on the day on 19 shots faced. The team took 13 shots with six on goal.

Next up for CCNY is New York University on September 9 at 7 p.m.
