Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Misericordia

The City College of New York women's basketball team fell shy with a 61-63 loss to Misericordia on Sunday afternoon.

Misercordia (4-9) started the game off taking the lead. City (7-7) was not far behind, but stayed down most of the first quarter. CCNY outscored the Cougars 15-7 in the first quarter.

Both teams battled back-and-forth during the second quarter. The lead changed eight times during the first half of the game. City was outscored in tthe second quarter and Misericordia led 27-25 going into the half.

Tiara Brown led the Beavers with seven points and six rebounds. City shot .333 from the field, while the Cougars shot .375 in the first half.

City came out strong to start the second half of the game, but just like the third quarter the game remained close. No one would knew it would come down to the final seconds to decide this game. CCNY took their largest lead of the game at the 4:47 mark when they led by nine, but the Cougars would not go quietly. City outscored Misericordia 19-16 in the third quarter.

Misericordia turned it on in the fourth quarter. They took their largest lead of six points with only 1:34 left on the clock. Both teams continued to battle as they fought for a big non-conference win. With 44 seconds on the clock, City and the Cougars were tied 61-61. With the Cougars final possession hey got the ball to Justine Seely who made the easy layup for the big 63-61 lead. City tried to get off a shot to force overtime or take the win, but they could not get it to go in and they fell 63-61.

Brown notched a double-double when she recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds. Debra Chan tallied 13 points of her own in the loss. City shot .400 from the field and .400 from behind the arc on the game, while the Cougars shot .444 from the field.

City travels to face USMMA on Tuesday, January 12 at 6 p.m.
