Beavers Fall In Final Seconds Against Lehman

The City College of New York men's basketball team fell in the final seconds 70-69 against Lehman College on Sunday afternoon.

Lehman (10-3, 5-0 CUNYAC) took a quick start to the first conference game of the new year. City (6-5, 2-3 CUNYAC) was not far behind as they looked to hand Lehman their first conference loss. Both teams went back-and-forth as they battled for the lead. During the first half, the score was tied four times and changed five times. City took the lead 16-12 at the 12 minute mark and held onto the lead for the remainder of the half. CCNY continued to add to their lead and held onto it as they went into the locker room with a 31-28 lead over Lehman

David Solano led the Beavers with 6 points, while Robbie Dionisio led with nine rebounds. City shot .314 from the field during the first half and held Lehman to a .306 field goal percentage.

City came into the second half trying to hold onto their lead. Lehman came out of the locker room strong and fought hard. The score continued to go back-and-forth between the conference foes. When the score was tied 35-35, City went on a 6-0 run to take a 41-35 lead. They continued to hold their lead until Lehman tied it 55-55. CCNY continued to battle for the points, but Lehman would not be stopped.

With 10 seconds left the score was tied 69-69. John Brens, of Lehman College, was sent to the foul line. He made one of his two shots to give Lehman a 70-69 lead. As the final 10 seconds counted down, the Beavers could not get a basket to take the win.

Khalil Hamer led the Beavers with 16 points, while Will Rhodes added 14. Dionisio finished the game with 11 boards.

City will face College of Staten Island on Tuesday, January 5 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center.
