The City College of New York men's basketball team was topped by Lehman College 85-80 on Saturday afternoon at The Apex in the Bronx, New York.
David Solano picked up the first bucket for the Beavers to put them up 3-0 early. Lehman took the next bucket, but City then went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. The Lightning quickly turned on the engine and took the lead 12-9. Both teams exchanged points back-and-forth as the lead changed multiple times in the first half.
The lead changed five times and the score was tied three times in the first half. Lehman had the last chance right before the half and went up 44-43 going into halftime. City shot .500 from the field and .643 from the three-point line in the first half. Lehman also shot .500 from the field, but shot .286 from behind the arc.
City took the lead back to start the second half, but as was with the first half it was not for long until Lehman tied it. CCNY took a big 59-49 lead and they held onto that lead for most of the second half. Lehman continued to chip away, but the Beavers held on. It wasn't until Lehman went on a 9-0 run that tied the game 80-80 with 58 seconds left. The Lightning continued that run and held the Beavers scoreless to hand them an 85-80 loss.
Khalil Hamer notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.
Che McCoy led the Beavers with 21 points, while
Mark Richards and
Robbie Dionisio added 15 and 13, respectively.
Blake Borysewicz grabbed 10 boards.
City shot .458 from the field on the game and .538 from behind the arc. Lehman shot .509 from the field and .333 from three-point range.
The Beavers return home to face the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, February 2 in Nat Holman Gymnasium. Tip-off if set for 7 p.m.
