New York, NY - The City College of New York women's basketball team snapped a four game losing streak on Wednesday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium by defeating Yeshiva University 87-42.
Freshmen Shakirra Smith had a coming out party in front of the home crowd. Smith ended with a game-high 25-points (11-of-15 from the field), six rebounds, and five steals. Senior Erika Richards added 21-points and six rebounds. Freshmen Beatrice Wallace finished with 13-points and seven steals.
Freshmen Elizabeth Zullo posted seven points, nine assists and four steals, while Sophomore Debra Chan notched eight points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Senior Alexis Akridge earned eight points, five rebounds and two steals
Senior Marissa Olsen had a solid night on the glass ending with 10-rebounds. Junior Erica Redwood grabbed eight boards in the contest.
CCNY led 25-6 after one quarter and 52-17 at the half. The third quarter was competitive, as the Beavers outscored the Yeshiva 16-14 in that ten-minute stretch. The largest lead of the game, 45 points, came on a pair of free throws made by Alexis Akridge with 1:27 remaining.
As a team, the Beavers shot 45.2% from the field. City College scored 38 points off of Yeshiva's turnovers. CCNY also had 41 of their points come from the bench.
The City College Women's basketball record now improves to 3-7 on the season. Their next game will be on the road against St. Joesph's College - Brooklyn on Friday, December 30th, at 2:00PM.
