Men's Basketball Falls By One In Regular Season Finale

The City College of New York men's basketball fell by just one point in a 69-68 loss to Medgar Evers as they closed out their regular season slate. The Beavers dropped to 13-12 and 7-9 in conference play, while Medgar improves to 13-12 and 10-6 CUNYAC.

City started the game off quickly on a 6-0 run, but the Cougars were close behind as they came back and took a 7-6 lead. It was back-and-forth action between the conference foes until Medgar Evers took a 23-15 lead. The Beavers would not give up that quickly as there was a lot of time still left to play. CCNY brought themselves within one as the Cougars led 25-24 with just over 1:30 left in the first half. It would be Medgar Evers that finished the first half on top and led 29-24.

The score was tied three times and the lead changed five times in the first half as both teams fought hard for a conference victory. City shot .313 from the field, but was held scoreless from the three-point line. Medgar Evers shot .342 from the field and .125 from behind the arc in the first half.

Continuing with their streak from the first half, the Cougars struck first in the second half and took a 36-30 lead. It would be the Beavers turn to take a run and again bring themselves within just one of the Cougars with the score 38-37. CCNY would take the lead at the 11:40 mark, but that's when the back-and-forth exchange of points began again. City hung onto the lead down the stretch until the 10 second mark. City led 68-67 and then committed what turned out to be a costly foul. Justin Sutton of Medgar Evers then made both of his free-throws to put the Cougars up 69-68 and with 10 seconds on the clock the Beavers could not take the lead back.

Mark Richards led the Beavers with 23 points, while Khalil Hamer added 14 and Blake Borysewicz recorded 11.  Robbie Dionisio was one point away from a double-double as he grabbed 11 boards and tallied nine points. City shot .413 from the field for the game.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Beavers move onto the CUNYAC tournament. City will host Hunter in the first round on Thursday, February 18 at 7 p.m.
