New York, NY - The City College Women's Basketball team used double-double performances from Seniors
Alexis Akridge and
Shakirra Smith, as well as crafty defense to slow the York College Cardinal's, downing the visiting team 64-38 earning their second straight victory.
Senior
Alexis Akridge led the charge for the Beavers, recording her fourth double-double of the season. Akridge ended with 18-points and14 rebounds in 36 minitues of play. Senior
Shakirra Smith played another great game off the bench for the team. Smith notched her first double-double of the season with 16-points and 15 rebounds.
Debra Chan finished the game with 17-points, four assists and three rebounds. Both
Marissa Olsen and Erica Redwood played strong defensive games picking up 11 rebounds each. Elizabeth Zullo added nine points and two assists.
The Beavers ended the first half with a 10-point gap in their favor, leading York College 31-21.In the second half, CCNY would outscore the Cardinal's 33-17 to win with a final score of 64-38.
The City College Women's Basketball team is now 6-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The team will play Lehman College next Wednesday night (Jan. 18 ) at home starting a 5:00pm.
