Men's Basketball Drops Exhibition Game At Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ – On Friday night, The City College of New men's basketball team opened the season in an exhibition game at Division I Rutgers University at Rutgers Athletic Center. The Beavers lost to the Scarlet Knights by the final of 94-38.

"My team played hard. It's a brand new team, a brand new coaching staff, they have a lot to get used to." said head coach Paul Dail, "The physical approach, Division I to Division III is a big difference. But, I feel overall my team gave it the best effort they possibly can."

Freshman Samuel Williams led the way for CCNY with nine points, while junior James White added six points and tied for a team-high with a pair of assists and steals. Junior Wils Jazilek brought down a team-high six rebounds on the night.

"I liked the drives and picks. I played that late in the game. I feel like they could've been doing that the entire game. But like I said, it was their first time playing on a college court, so they had to get used to it. I felt that they stepped up to the challenge tonight. Our bigs, they were kinda overmatched, but my guards, I feel like they really brought it to Rutgers." - Head Coach - Paul Dail

Four players registered double-digits in scoring for Rutgers, including senior Issa Thiam, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Deshawn Freeman added 16 points, along with six rebounds and three steals. Geo Baker finished with a game-high four assist and 10 points in the win.

"My goal was to get them to get the feel of a basketball game in college. It doesn't matter where I'm playing. Granted, Division I, Division III. Now, I feel like in Division III level they'll be top notch. They'll be unstoppable. I'm 100% guaranteed of my team after this game they're going to go in full force. I saw that in the second half especially tonight." - Head Coach - Paul Dail

CCNY will open their 2017-18 regular season on Wednesday, November 15 at home against Purchase College.
