CCNY WBB Flies By Yeshiva, 79-47

New York, NY – The City College of New York women's basketball team cruised to a 79-47 win Wednesday evening, taking down the Yeshiva University Maccabees at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.

CCNY started the game out on fire, opening up a 26-13 lead in the first quarter.  The Maccabees didn't register a made field goal until 7:34 remained in the opening frame.  Meanwhile, the Beavers shot 64.7% in the opening frame.

The Lavender & Blacks' offense was running at full throttle in the second quarter, as their defense continued to be too tough for the Maccabees. After holding Yeshiva to score four points in the second quarter, CCNY took a 49-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Tonight's first-half defensive performance was the best thus far for CCNY this season; Yeshiva's 17 points is the lowest any CCNY opponent has scored in the first 20-minute stretch thus far this season.

The Beavers led from wire-to-wire, with the margin getting as wide as 43 points. CCNY shot 42.9% from the floor overall, and 30.8% from beyond the arc.  CCNY's benched proved fruitful as the Beavers poured in 30 points off the bench; they also had 24 points off of 24 Yeshiva turnovers.

Junior Ashley Brooks finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Freshman Crystal Blair notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, recording her fourth game with double-figure rebounding.

Freshman Madison LaSalle scored a game-high 15 points. Junior Emily Arias scored a season-high 14 points, hitting four-of-nine from the field; she also dished out a season-high three assists. Junior's Debra Chan and Corina Coles both tied for a game-high five assists.

The leading scorer for Yeshiva was Nicole Bick with 11 points.

With the win, CCNY improves to 5-4 overall.  The Beavers will take to the court against Cedar Crest College this weekend in Allentown, PA.
