New Haven, CT – The City College men's volleyball team earned a three-set sweep of Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference road match Tuesday evening. Two different Beavers had double-digit kills to lead a highly effective offensive attack.
Sophomore Sebastjano Aga had a game-high 15 kills, six assists and two aces, while finishing with a .400 hitting percentage. Junior David Cham recorded 13 points with his season-high 13 kills. Andres Ramirez chipped in with a team-high five aces and seven digs. Senior Oleksandr Boychuk added a game-high 31 assists, three aces and a block. Carlos Maldonado Madrid ended with six kills and seven digs. Christoper Lee posted seven digs.
As a team, the Beavers hits .338, their best percentage of the season. CCNY had 37 assists on 40 kills. It is the second time this year, that the Beavers recorded 40+ kills.
In Tuesday's match, the Beavers jumped out to a quick 16-3 lead to open up the first set. The Lavender & Black scored the next nine out of fourteen points to take the set 25-7.
In the second set, a kill by Carlos Maldonado Madrid gave the Beavers a early 5-3 lead. Albertus Magnus battled back to make it 16-11 in favor of CCNY, but the Beavers pulled away thanks to a 9-6 run to win the set 25-17.
CCNY maintained a lead for the majority of the third set on their way to a clean sweep of Albertus Magnus. At one point, the visiting team brought the game within six points (13-7), but CCNY used a 12-6 run to put away the Falcons (25-13)
The win improves CCNY to 4-8 overall. The Lavender & Black host Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, Mar. 9 at 7 PM.
