CCNY WBB Runs Past John Jay, 76-41

NEW YORK, NY - Behind strong all-around team performances, The City College of New York women's basketball team took down John Jay College, 76-41. 

The team now improves to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Beaver's are now also off to their best start in their first 12 games since the 1988-1989 seasons.

For the fifth time this season, CCNY kept an opponent to just under 50 points.  The Bloodhounds made just 12 field goals on just 20.7% shooting, both CCNY opponent-lows this season.  

Freshman Crystal Blair chipped in a game-high 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore Elizabeth Zullo had 13 points and junior Emily Arias finished with 12, while both connected on four three-pointers in the contest. 

Both Erica Redwood and Ashley Brooks were busy on the glass. Redwood pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds while Brooks notched 16 boards in the contest. Redwood also dished out a season-high four assists. 

CCNY forced 18 turnovers, converting the extra possessions into 26 points.  The Lavender & Black netted 24 points in the paint, led largely by the teams offensive presence in the paint.  

Junior Corina Coles combined for nine points and two assists. Freshman Madison LaSalle ended her night with five points and two assists 

The Beavers assisted on 22 of its 27 made field goals. Junior Debra Chan dished out a game-high five assists.

Both rookies Melanie Torres and Sabrina Diaz totaled season-high in points and rebounds. Torres picked up eight points (4-of-6 shooting), four rebounds and one block. Diaz notched three points and grabbed two rebounds.  

The Lavender & Black return to action on Tuesday evening at home when they take the court against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs at 5:00 PM.
