Brooklyn, NY - On Wednesday, the CCNY women's soccer team battled to a scoreless double overtime draw with John Jay College in the CUNY Athletic Conference semifinals. However, the Bloodhounds would advance to Conference Championship by a 5-4 decision in penalty kicks.
After an exciting 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Beavers and Bloodhounds were forced to decide the match in a penalty shootout.
Through the first two rounds, Juniors
Gabrielle Duchaussee and
Kimberly Keblish each connect on the Beavers first two attempts, while the Bloodhounds made good on one shot in the second round.
In the third round, John Jay connected on their shot attempt, to tie the penalty period at 2-2.
Round four saw both CCNY and John Jay convert successful attempts, with
Tatiana Zuluaga scoring for the Beavers (3-3).
In the fifth round, John Jay keeper Brittany Shaneberger stopped sophomore's
Amy Gomez's attempt, however, CCNY's
Catherine Langkamp matched Shaneberger's save to keep the shootout knotted at three.
In the six round,
Daniela Grisales-Agudelo connected on her attempt to give the Beavers the edge (4-3). John Jay was able to once again even the score as Cynthia Madrid netted the successful shot.
CCNY would miss its final penalty kick, as John Jay would convert on their last attempt, ending the match at 5-4.
In the match, the Lavender & Black had 11 total shots, four of those on goal.
In goal, Lampkamp played a stellar, coming out with six total saves in 110 minutes.
The CCNY women's soccer team will await its destiny on Selection Monday (Nov. 5) to determine its next contest in postseason play.
