New York, N.Y. - Behind two players with double-doubles, the CCNY women's basketball program downed John Jay College, 68-40, in front of a home crowd at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Friday night. The team improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
CCNY came out of the gates fast going on a 14-2 run to start the game. The Beavers shot 47.4% in the quarter to get out to an early lead, 19-7, to end the period.
Leading by 13 after the second quarter, CCNY stretched the lead to 18 at the 6:37 mark of the third frame. The Beavers would own a sizeable lead for the remainder of the quarter, holding a 15 point (47-32) to end the period.
In the fourth quarter, CCNY put the pressure on the John Jay defensively, not allowing the Bloodhounds to score a single bucket for the first three minutes and 37 seconds of the period. CCNY would outscore John Jay 21-to-8 in the final period, leading to a 68-40 victory.
Sophomore
Crystal Blair paced the Beavers with her fourth double-double of the season. Blair led the team with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Senior
Ashley Brooks added her fifth double-double of the year, finishing with a season-high 20 rebounds, 10 points, three blocks, and two steals.
Senior
Debra Chan tied her season-high of 16 points, shooting 4-of-8 from the field. Junior
Elizabeth Zullo had six points and five rebounds.
Up next, CCNY hits the road traveling to Sarah Lawrence College on Sunday, Dec. 9 in Bronxville, N.Y. for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
