CCNY Shuts Out Medgar Evers On Wednesday Night

RANDALL'S ISLAND, NY -- Erik Jimenez (Comayaua, Honduras) scored twice and Kacper Lesniak (Nowy Sacz, Poland) made six saves to lead the City College of New York men's soccer team (1-8-0, 1-2-0 CUNYAC) to a 3-0 win over Medgar Evers (1-7-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) at Randall's Island on Wednesday night.  It was CCNY's first shutout victory since a 1-0 triumph over John Jay on Oct. 15, 2016.

After Medgar Evers had a goal waived off because of an offside call, Jimenez got the Beavers on the board in the 14th minute.  Adonijah Brooks (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) got free down the left side and sent it ahead to Edgar Gutierrez (Puebla, Mexico).  He then found Jimenez, who snuck a low shot past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 CCNY lead.

The Cougars nearly tied it in the 52nd minute.  However, Darrell Ambersley's shot hit the inside of the post and rolled right into Lesniak's arms without crossing the goal line.  CCNY then increased its advantage to 2-0 when John Yauri (Cuenca, Ecuador) converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute.

Yauri and Jimenez connected for CCNY's third goal 10 minutes later.  Yauri fed Jimenez streaking down the right side, and he beat the keeper low for his second score of the contest.  The Beavers held the Cougars in check over the final 25 minutes to preserve both the shutout and their first win of the season.

Jimenez's tallies were his first two of the year, while Yauri finished with a goal and an assist.  Lesniak, meanwhile, was credited with his first collegiate win and his first collegiate shutout.

CCNY continues CUNYAC play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. visit to York (1-9-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC).  The game will take place at Queens College.
