TEANECK, NJ -- On Sunday evening, the City College of New York men's soccer team concluded its 2019 campaign with a matchup against Yeshiva. Playing for the first time in 10 days, the Beavers (3-13-0) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Maccabees (4-10-1) at Votee Park.
A CCNY foul in the box gave Yeshiva a penalty kick in the 26th minute, and Simon Schoen converted to put the Maccabees up 1-0. Yeshiva then doubled its lead in the 34th minute, when Marc Ziarno got free on a breakaway and fed Ethan Fettaya, who slipped it past
Kacper Lesniak (Nowy Sacz, Poland).
After Fettaya scored again in the 64th minute, the Beavers cut their deficit to 3-1 six minutes later.
Nicholas Karkut (Tychy, Poland) fired a blast from 15 yards out that was redirected off a defender and into the net for his third goal of the season.
However, Yeshiva scored on back-to-back shots in the 79th minute to extend its advantage to 5-1. The Maccabees then added a late tally when Isaac Bendahan found the empty net after a two-on-one breakaway.
WIth his third goal of the year, Karkut ended up tied for the team lead.
Bubacarr Jaiteh (Bakau, Gambia) was credited with an assist on the goal, giving him a squad-best eight points on the season. Lesniak made seven saves to finish the year with 119.
Fettaya had two goals and two assists for Yeshiva. Zachary Stauber and Jess Rom, meanwhile, each recorded a goal and an assist. Sagi Badash got the start in net and made two saves to earn the win. Nicolas Dlugach was credited with one save over the final 22:20.
