BROOKLYN, NY - The CCNY men's volleyball team kept their winning streak alive on Tuesday evening, as the Beavers edged out Medgar Evers College, 3-2, for the seventh straight victory.
The Beavers avenged their early-season loss to Medgar Evers, edging out the Cougars in five-sets (25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 15-11). The win improves the team to 12-4 overall (3-2 CUNYAC) and moves them up to the third position in the CUNY Athletic Conference standings.
CCNY took the opening set 25-23, before knocking off the Cougars in the second set 25-17.
Medgar Evers evened the match at 2-2, earning a close 25-22 and a 25-23 victory in the second and third frames.
In the deciding set, CCNY closed out the match on an 8-2 run to secure the 15-11 victory.
Freshman
Xhulio Myftari dominated throughout the match, finishing with 28 kills, five service aces, six digs, and four blocks. Sophomore setter
Hei Chun Chan dished out a career-high 47 assists.
Junior
Seth Diaz a career-high seven blocks and nine kills while
Carlos Maldonado Madrid recorded nine kills and five digs.
Junior
Jonathan Liao posted a season-high 13 digs and freshman
Tenzin Sherpa ended with three digs and two aces while sophomore
Elijah Parks contributed three kills, five digs, and one block.
With only two matches remaining in the regular-season, CCNY will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 28 when the Beavers host Lehman College at 7:00 pm.
