Throggs Neck, N.Y.  – The CCNY men's soccer team dropped its season-opener Saturday afternoon, falling Maritime College in a tight non-conference, 1-0. 

Maritime got on the board in the 13^th minute with Anthony Sblendorio netting the lone via a penalty kick. 

Maritime held the offensive advantage in the first half, outshooting the Beavers 4-1.

In the 64^th minute of play, a wide-right shot from freshman Mohamadou Diallo nearly tied the match.

The Beavers kept the pressure on as freshman Ishmael Quansah had a shot in the 64^th minute that went wide. CCNY's last scoring chance came in the 73^rd minute when a sophomore Bubacarr Jaiteh's free-kick from 15 yards out went wide-left.

In the end, Maritime ended the game with an 11-4 shot edge with eight shots landing on goal. Rookie goalkeeper Kacper Lesniak made key saves for the Beavers in goal, totaling seven in the contest.

The CCNY men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 3, when the Beavers play at Rutgers-Newark.
