BRONX, NY – The City College of New York men's basketball team wrapped up its 2019-20 season by visiting Lehman on Tuesday night. The Beavers (3-22, 2-12 CUNY Athletic Conference), who had won each of their previous two road games, were unable to make it three straight, as the Lightning (15-10, 9-5 CUNYAC) earned a 73-56 victory at the Lehman College APEX.
Yassine Sakhi (New York, NY) led the Beavers with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Romello Rashad (New York, NY), meanwhile, registered 13 points, eight boards and six assists in his final collegiate game.
Daniel Piszczatowski (Middle Village, NY) contributed nine points, and
Jonathan Suazo (Bronx, NY) pulled down seven rebounds. CCNY shot a combined 31 percent (18-of-58) from the floor and outrebounded Lehman 41-40. The Beavers were 10-for-30 (33.3 percent) from three-point range and 10-for-17 (58.8 percent) at the free throw line.
Lehman scored the first seven points of the game and extended its cushion to 19-7 with 12:38 left until halftime. After Rashad sank a trey to pull CCNY within nine, 21-12, at the 10:38 mark, the Lightning went on an 8-1 run to increase the margin to 16 points, 29-13. The Beavers responded with a pair of three-pointers from Rashad and
Athanasios Kamberis (New Hyde Park, NY), but Lehman closed the half on a 10-3 spurt to take a 39-22 lead into the locker room.
CCNY opened the second half on a 7-0 run to again pull within 10 points, 39-29. The Beavers would get no closer, however, as the Lightning rattled off the next 14 points to open up a 53-29 advantage. Lehman's lead reached a game-high 25 points at 56-31 midway through the second half, and the Lightning still held a 71-47 edge with less than four minutes left. CCNY ended the contest on a 9-2 run, with six of those points coming on Sakhi free throws, to make the final margin 73-56.
Isaiah Geathers finished with 19 points and eight rebounds to pace the Lightning. Gian Batista tallied 16 points and six assists, while Mo Idrissou contributed 11 points off the bench. Tommy Batista chipped in 10 points, and Will Feldman handed out six assists. As a team, Lehman shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field, 19 percent (4-of-21) from downtown, and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) at the charity stripe.
Tuesday's game also marked
Isaiah Denard's (Staten Island, NY) last appearance in a CCNY uniform. He notched five points and three rebounds in his final collegiate contest.
