Season Ends With CUNYAC Tournament Loss to John Jay

NEW YORK – On Saturday afternoon, the sixth-seeded City College of New York women's basketball team took on third-seeded John Jay in the first round of the CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament.  Taking on John Jay in the first round for the second consecutive year, the Beavers (3-23) suffered a 97-46 loss to the Bloodhounds (14-12) at the Doghouse.

John Jay jumped out to an early 13-4 lead and extended that advantage to 25-11 at the end of the first quarter.  The Beavers pulled within eight when a Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) free throw made it 29-21 with 7:10 left until halftime, but the Bloodhounds responded with a 23-4 run that extended their cushion to 52-25 at the break.

After increasing the margin to 80-36 after three quarters, John Jay opened up its largest advantage of the game, 97-43, with less than a minute remaining.  Nahomi Zambrano (Bronx, NY) sank a three-pointer to cap the scoring, as the Bloodhounds advanced to face second-seeded Hunter in the CUNYAC semifinals.

Nyasha Howard had a triple-double for John Jay with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists.  Katie Healy finished with 22 points and 15 boards to go along with six assists and three steals.  All'aha Albright tallied 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Jada Rencher also posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.  Jessica Gorman added 17 points and three blocks for the Bloodhounds.  As a team, John Jay shot 38.7 percent (36-of-93) from the field, 31.4 percent (11-of-35) from downtown, and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) at the free throw line.

Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) led the Beavers with 16 points, and she also recorded three assists.  Fumasoli registered eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.  Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) collected 15 boards for CCNY, which shot 24.7 percent (18-of-73) from the floor.  The Beavers were 5-for-25 (20 percent) from long range and 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) at the charity stripe.

The CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Boehm finished the season with 642 points and 26.8 points per game.  Both of those totals currently lead the nation, and she also drained an NCAA-high 93 three-pointers this season.
