Galloway Sinks Game-Winner to Lift Beavers over John Jay in Conference Opener

New York, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball team opened conference play on Saturday, defeating John Jay College in a thriller, as senior Dashaun Galloway banked in the game-winner, sealing a 66-64 win for the Beavers.

The Beavers improve to 3-4 overall with the win and 1-0 to start conference play.

The Beavers led by eight points (64-56) with 3:29 to go in the game before an 8-0 run by the Bloodhounds helped even the contest at 64-64 with under two minutes left in regulation. After missed scoring opportunities by both teams in the final 90 seconds, a missed three-pointer by John Jay with 16 seconds left aided Galloway in tracking the loose ball down and driving down the lane to float in what proved to be the game-winner with 4.9, securing the Beavers the win.

Galloway led CCNY with an all-around game of 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, six steals, and two blocks. Freshman Michael Bowman finished a season-high 19 points with two rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Junior Amir Assani tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in the game.

Sophomore Bayame Bah tallied a massive 18 rebounds and four blocks, setting new career highs. Junior Yassine Sakhi ended with eight points and two rebounds, while senior Daniel Piszczatowski had seven points, two rebounds, and two assists. Junior Nana Oteng finished the afternoon with four points, three rebounds, and a steal.

The Beavers outrebounded the Bloodhounds 44-35 in the contest and forced 22 turnovers.

The CCNY Men's Basketball is back in action on Monday, Dec. 5, as the Beavers host Cairn University in the 2022-23 home opener. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
