New York, NY - In their home opener, The City College of New York men's soccer team pulled out their first win of the season, defeating York College in CUNY Athletic Conference play, 3-1. With the win, the Beavers improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The Cardinals struck first in the match after Marvin Mondesir chipped a shot in the third minute of play.
In the 52nd minute, junior Yusuf Abdelmegid netted a free kick from 25 yards out, tying the game 1-1. The Beavers added another goal in the 54th minute on an own goal, extending their lead 2-1.
In the 71st minute, Abdelmegid found the back of the net for the second time of the night, guiding the ball off a deflection off York's goalkeeper. Alban Durgaj and Gianpaolo Massucci were each credited with the assist.
In goal, junior Mikhael Torres made five stops in the win, allowing one goal.
The Beavers had a 23-9 advantage in shots and a 14-1 margin in corner kicks.
The Beavers return home on Wednesday, Oct. 4, to host John Jay College at 7:00 p.m. at Randall's Island Field 10.
