New York, NY - The City College of New York men's soccer program hosted Hunter College on Wednesday night in the regular season finale, falling to the Hawks, 4-1.
In a pregame ceremony, the CCNY men's soccer program held its annual senior night recognition ceremony and celebrated the life of men's soccer student-athlete
Erik Jimenez-Villeda, who passed away this past June.
Joined by Erick's family, Head Coach
Roberto Ignaccolo and the program held a moment of silent reflection in memory of Erik, while team captains from both men's and women's soccer programs presented his senior night photo and flowers to the family.
The program also recognized and honored graduating seniors
Christian Leon,
Gary Arellano, and
Johnathan Caceres for their hard work and dedication to the program.
The Beavers stuck first in the match as freshman
Arlind Cela netted his first career goal in the 33rd minute.
Hazim Naji and
Johnathan Caceres each were credited with the assist.
In the 65th minute, Abdullah Al Maghrabi evened the match for the Hawks. Five minutes later, Manjiro Nishimura found the back of the net again for the Hawks, taking a 2-1 lead.
Hunter would add two more insurance goals in the 73rd and 86th minutes of lay to secure a 4-1 lead.
Next, the Beavers will take on Baruch College in the First Round of the 2023 CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament.
