New York, NY - In their home opener, The City College of New York men's basketball welcomed Whittier College to the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Monday night, defeating the Poets, 83-71.
The win marks the Beaver's second straight victory while improving to 3-3 on the season.
Sophomore
Ricardo Dixon led all scorers with a season-high 20 points, along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Junior
Edward Beqiri finished the evening with 19 points, four rebounds, four blocks, and two assists. Senior
Yassine Sakhi notched a double-double, posting 16 points and ten assists to go with five rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore
Michael Bowman had 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Junior
Chris Stone ended with nine points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Junior
Jordan Williams finished with five points and four rebounds.
CCNY opened the game on a 15-7 scoring run, forcing four turnovers in the first five minutes of the half. The Poets answered back, outscoring the Beavers 9-2, slimming their lead to one point (17-16) with 10:49 left in the half. The Beavers closed the half with an 11-point lead, 44-33.
In the second half, the Beavers pushed their lead to 18 (52-34) after a 8-1 run. The Beavers outshot the Poets 50 percent to 36.4 percent in half, closing out the game with a 12-point victory, 83-71.
Next, the Beavers travel to take on Centenary University in a Thanksgiving Eve matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 1:00 p.m.
