CCNY Men's Basketball Defeats Misericordia, 80-74, to Close Out Non-Conference Play

Chris Stone Records First Career Triple-Double

New York, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball team closed out the 2023 calendar year and non-conference play with a victory at home over Misericordia University at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, 80-74.

The victory marks CCNY's third straight victory, capturing their last seven out of nine contests, while the Beavers improve to 8-4 overall.

Junior Chris Stone produced his first career triple-double, dropping 17 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. His triple-double is CCNY's first since Feb. 18, 2023, when Dashaun Galloway '23 totaled 12 points, ten rebounds, and 15 assists in a 98-75 victory over John Jay.

Senior Yassine Sakhi finished with a game-high 28 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. His scoring performance pushes him to 24th on the CUNY Athletic Conference's All-Time Scorers list. Sophomore Ricardo Dixon recorded his fourth consecutive double-double, tallying his fifth of the season with 10 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, and three blocks.

Junior Edward Beqiri finished with 15 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Freshman Denzel Reynoso added five points and three rebounds, while Sophomore Kayson Dinkins filled the stat sheet with three points, five rebounds, and three steals. Junior Jordan Williams added two points and three rebounds.

CCNY totaled a season-high 53 rebounds in the game, producing season-highs on the offensive (16) and defensive (37) sides of the glass in the outing. The Beavers shot 41.5 percent in the contest, holding the Cougars to 38.4 percent from the field. 

Next, CCNY returns to CUNY Athletic Conference play to open the New Year, visiting Lehman College on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
