New York, NY - The City College of New York women's track and field program earned a second-place finish on Sunday at the 2023 CUNY Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory.
Sophomore
Stephanie Toussaint led the Beavers with a pair of dominating first-place finishes in the throwing events. In the weight throw, she recorded a personal best throw of 12.23m and tossed a 9.11m.
Freshman
Samantha Maendel had a breakout performance for the Beavers, medaling twice. Maendel ran to a first-place finish in the 800m dash in a personal-best time of 2:42.81. She was the runner-up in the 400m dash, clocking a new personal-best time of 1:05.84. Maendel also placed fifth in the 200m dash (30.42).
Freshman
Zuha Khan showcased an impressive performance in the 60m Hurdles, winning the event with a personal-best time of 11.28. Sophomore
Aakaysha Williams placed second overall in the mile run (6:38.17) and notched a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash (1:11.34).
In sprints,
Laura Villatoro paced the Beavers with a third-place finish in her fastest time of the season (8.75). In the 200n dash, Villatoro turned in a fourth-place finish (29.95). Sophomore
Johanni Valerio took fifth in the 60m dash running a time of 9.17 in the finals while clocking a personal-best time of 9.06 in the prelims.
Sophomore
Sandra Lu added fourth-place finishes in the mile run (7:02.18) and in the long jump (4.05m). Sophomore
Zara McPartland scored a fifth-place finish in the 800m run (2:56.70). Sophomore
Eki Igbineweka placed fourth in the triple jump and recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump (3.77m).
In the relays, the Beavers Distance Medley Relay squad consisting of McPartland,
Joeli Valerio, Lu, and Williams combined for a time of 15:19.28, placing second overall. CCNY 4x400m relay team of
Johanni Valerio, Lu,
Kaylin Soto, and
Joeli Valerio took second overall with a time of 5:09.60.
