New York, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball team defeated York College on Wednesday night, taking down the Cardinals, 91-51, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The Beavers improve to 9-6 overall and even their conference record to 2-2 with the win.
The Beavers shot a season-high 55.6 percent from the field in the contest and shared the ball generously, producing 29 assists, a new season-high.
Senior Yassine Sakhi led the Beavers with a season-high 32 points, shooting an efficient 77.8 percent from the field, knocking down 14 out of 18 shots of his in the contest. He also added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. His scoring performance lifts him to 18th on the CUNY Athletic Conference's All-Time Scorers list, accumulating 1,636 to pass the College of Stand Island's Tony Petosa (1,635). He continues to close in as CCNY's All-time leading scorer, sitting second behind Richie Silvera '78 (1,736).
Sophomore Ricardo Dixon garnered his sixth straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with three blocks, two assists, and two steals. Junior Edward Beqiri posted 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three blocks in the win. Junior Chris Stone finished with eight points, four rebounds, six assists, and a game-high seven steals.
Junior Jordan Willimas added six points, two rebounds, and a season-high five assists. Junior Elijah Patterson had six points, a season-high ten rebounds, and two blocks. Sophomore Kayson Dinkins produced eight points, four rebounds, and four assists, while freshman Denzel Reynoso had four points and an assist off the bench.
Next, the Beavers travel downtown to take on Hunter College on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7:00 p.m.
