CCNY Women’s Soccer Shuts Out York in CUNYAC Opener, 5–0

Jamaica, NY - The City College of New York women's soccer team opened CUNYAC play in dominant fashion on Tuesday afternoon, rolling to a 5–0 shutout victory over York College. Freshman Marjorie Placencia tallied her first second hat trick of the season, while freshman Elsa Gashi scored twice to lead the Beavers' offensive surge.

With the win, CCNY improves to 2-6-3 overall and 1–0 in CUNYAC play.

CCNY controlled the match from the outset, outshooting York 38–1 and maintaining steady pressure throughout both halves. Placencia opened the scoring in the 18th minute off a feed from freshman Vania Bawla, giving the Beavers the early edge.

After halftime, CCNY's attack exploded with four goals in the span of 25 minutes. Placencia netted her second goal in the 60th minute off a pass from freshman Sara Dos Santos, followed by  Gashi's first of the afternoon in the 63rd minute from Zherlyn Valdez Guaillazaca. Placencia completed her hat trick in the 80th minute, and Gashi capped the scoring in the 85th, again assisted by Guaillazaca.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Laila Issa earned the shutout without facing a shot on target, as the Beavers' backline stifled the Cardinals' attack.

Next, the Beavers travel to take on John Jay College on Saturday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m.
