New York, NY— The CCNY men's soccer team showed tremendous resilience on Friday evening, battling back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2–2 draw on the road against Baruch College in a key CUNYAC matchup.
Baruch opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Mitchel Frenkel converted a pass from Sardor Abidov to give the Bearcats an early 1–0 advantage. The hosts doubled their lead in the 61st minute after Andreas Kotronis capitalized on a penalty kick to make it 2–0.
The Beavers mounted an inspired comeback in the closing minutes. In the 85th minute, senior Mattia Gaspari scored his first career goal, finishing a setup from freshman Bitoshoke Chakma to cut the deficit in half. Just over a minute later, Chakma struck again—this time finding the equalizer himself in the 86th minute to complete the rally and secure the draw.
CCNY outshot Baruch 21–13, including 13 attempts in the second half, and held a narrow advantage in corner kicks. The Beavers' late offensive push ultimately earned them a valuable point in conference play.
The result moves CCNY to 1-6-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in CUNYAC play. The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, October 8, hosting Hunter College at 4:15 pm at Randall's Island Field 83.
