Ewing, NJ - The City College of New York Men's Basketball team wrapped up its weekend appearance in the Greg Grant Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon, falling in a tightly contested consolation game to Johnson & Wales University, 77–72.
CCNY opened the game with strong energy, pushing ahead to a 37–33 lead at halftime behind efficient shooting and steady ball movement. However, the Wildcats responded after the break, using a 44-point second half to overtake the Beavers down the stretch.
Senior guard
Justin Morety delivered a standout performance, pouring in a game-high 25 points while adding three assists and two steals. Sophomore
Chris Popotte anchored the interior with a powerful double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Off the bench, freshman
Olabanjo Aborisade provided a lift with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting along with six rebounds.
Senior
Michael Bowman chipped in 9 points, hitting three shots from long range, while freshman
Samuel Olubakin added eight points and remained steady at the free-throw line.
Despite shooting 41.7% from the field and winning several key stretches, CCNY couldn't withstand JWU's late surge, as the Wildcats found timely scoring to close out the contest.
CCNY returns to competition on Wednesday, November 19, traveling for an exhibition game against Division I Quinnipiac University.
