CCNY Men's Basketball Falls on the Road to Coast Guard, 84–74

New London, Conn. - The City College of New York Men's Basketball team dropped its road matchup on Friday night, falling to Coast Guard Academy, 84–74, in the opener of the 2025 Cadet Mariner Classic at the Yarnall Athletic Center. Despite a strong second-half push, the Beavers were unable to overcome a hot-shooting first half from the Bears.

Coast Guard built an early advantage behind a 52-point opening half, fueled by 12 three-pointers before intermission. CCNY responded with an improved effort after the break, outscoring the Bears 43–32 in the second half and shooting 50 percent from the field, but the deficit proved too large to erase.

Senior guard Michael Bowman led the Beavers with 23 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor and connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Senior Justin Morety followed closely with 21 points and a team-high seven rebounds, continuing his consistent offensive production.

Off the bench, sophomore David Leye provided a major spark, scoring 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including four made threes. Freshmen Olabanjo Aborisade and Samuel Olubakin combined for seven points, while the Beavers' reserves totaled 23 points on the night.

CCNY shot an efficient 42.6 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three, while forcing 16 Coast Guard turnovers that led to 25 points. However, the Bears' early perimeter success—finishing with 12 made threes—and a 45–27 rebounding advantage helped secure the home victory.

Coast Guard was paced by Elijah Parent's 18 points, while Luke Farrell added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Beavers return to action tomorrow, closing out the Cadet Mariner Classic against Mitchell College at 1:00 p.m.
