LANCASTER, Pa. — The City College of New York men's basketball team dropped a 113–68 decision to Drew University on Monday afternoon at the Mayser Center, closing out the F&M Holiday Tournament. CCNY moves to 1–9 overall and 1–1 in CUNYAC play, while Drew improved to 9–2 on the season.
CCNY kept pace early behind a strong offensive start, shooting 46.7 percent from the field in the opening half. Seniors
Justin Morety and
Kayson Dinkins led the way, combining for 24 first-half points as the Beavers stayed within striking distance. Drew, however, found its rhythm quickly, shooting 57.1 percent in the first half and building a 63–38 advantage at the break.
The Rangers continued to apply pressure in the second half, using depth and tempo to stretch the lead. Drew finished with 57 bench points and forced 25 CCNY turnovers, converting them into 34 points. The Rangers also controlled the paint, outscoring CCNY 56–24 inside, while adding 22 fast-break points.
Morety paced the Beavers with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, while Dinkins matched him with 21 points, including four three-pointers. Freshman
Olabanjo Aborisade added 10 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore
David Leye chipped in seven off the bench.
Drew placed eight players in double figures, led by Andre De Los Reyes and Charlie Thornton with 15 points apiece. Benjamin Manns (11 points, seven rebounds) and Marc Herasme (12 points, four assists) provided a spark off the bench as Drew shot 51.3 percent from the field for the game.
CCNY returns to action on Friday, January 2, on the road against Western Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m.
