CCNY Women’s Soccer Opens 2025 Campaign at Sarah Lawrence, Falls 5-1

Bronxville, NY — The City College of New York women's soccer team opened its 2025 season on the road Wednesday evening, facing off against Sarah Lawrence College. Despite a strong effort, the Beavers were defeated 5–1 in a fast-paced and physical match.

Sarah Lawrence struck early and often, with Viktoria Balbin and Katey Beaver each scoring twice in the first half. Beaver's second goal came off a well-placed assist from Emma Mangan, while Phoebe Workman added a fourth goal before halftime, assisted by Nicaia Sharp. Balbin capped off the scoring for the Gryphons early in the second half.

CCNY's lone goal came in the 89th minute, when freshman midfielder Litsi Auquilla found the back of the net, marking her first collegiate goal and giving the Beavers a late spark.

In goal, senior Laila Issa delivered a standout performance, recording 20 saves against relentless pressure from the Gryphons' attack.

Next, the Beavers return to action on Saturday, September 6, on the road against Albertus Magnus College at 1:00 p.m.
