New York, NY - The City College of New York women's basketball team led from start to finish on Friday night, cruising to a 73–54 CUNYAC victory over York (N.Y.) in front of 175 fans at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
With the victory, CCNY improves to 4–13 overall and 2–6 in CUNYAC play, while York falls to 0–13 overall and 0–8 in conference action.
CCNY jumped out early and never looked back, opening the game on a 22–5 first-quarter run to seize control. The Beavers combined aggressive defense with strong rebounding to set the tone, holding York to just two field goals in the opening 10 minutes.
York found some rhythm in the second quarter, but CCNY continued to answer, carrying a 40–22 advantage into halftime. The Beavers extended the lead to as many as 26 points midway through the third quarter and maintained a comfortable margin the rest of the way to secure the win.
Senior
Joscelyn Ramos led CCNY with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, adding seven rebounds and five steals in an all-around performance. Junior
Ashley Colon followed with 17 points and three three-pointers, while sophpmore
Ashley Subervi posted a strong double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Freshman
Blessings Joseph-Pascall and
Amanda Fisher each grabbed 12 rebounds to anchor CCNY's dominance on the glass, as the Beavers outrebounded York 63–55 and scored 16 second-chance points. CCNY also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 30 points off York miscues.
For York, Amaniya Aiken carried the offensive load with a game-high 30 points and four steals, but CCNY's depth and defensive pressure proved too much to overcome.
