CCNY Women's Soccer Takes Down John Jay, Claims Sole Possession of First Place

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The City College of New York women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over John Jay College on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island, securing sole possession of first place in the CUNYAC standings and extending its perfect conference record to 3-0.

The Beavers (6-5-0, 3-0-0 CUNYAC) broke through in the 16th minute when freshman Dianne Guncay found the back of the net at 15:20, scoring her second goal of the season to give CCNY an early 1-0 advantage. The goal proved to be the difference as the Beavers held off the Bloodhounds (5-6-1, 2-1-0 CUNYAC) for the remainder of the contest.

With the victory, CCNY moves into sole possession of first place in the CUNYAC standings, handing John Jay its first conference loss of the season and establishing the Beavers as the conference's lone unbeaten team in league play.

CCNY controlled much of the offensive action, outshooting John Jay 16-9 and putting nine attempts on target. Josoniah Terry led the Beavers with four shots, while Sara Rodriguez added three attempts and Guncay recorded three shots of her own.

Defensively, the Beavers delivered a strong performance to secure their third consecutive conference victory. Goalkeeper Jade Salas played all 90 minutes, making four saves to record the shutout as CCNY limited John Jay to six shots on goal.

With sole possession of first place secured, the Beavers will close out the regular season on Saturday, traveling to take on Lehman College.
