New York, NY — The City College of New York men's volleyball team continued its strong early-season play with a convincing straight-set victory over SUNY Old Westbury in its home opener on Tuesday night, improving to 2–1 on the season.
CCNY controlled the match from start to finish, showcasing balance on offense and discipline at the net to earn the win. The Beavers posted an impressive .397 team hitting percentage while limiting Old Westbury to .113, setting the tone with efficient attacking and steady serve-receive throughout the contest.
Sophomore
Nana Boateng led the Beavers with a dominant performance, finishing with a match-high 13.0 points on 11 kills while hitting .529. Sophomore
Gabriel Linus added 10.5 points, contributing 10 kills and four blocks, while sophomore
Amir Nabiyev provided a strong spark off the bench with eight kills on .500 hitting.
At the setter position, freshman
Ruben Santiago orchestrated the offense seamlessly, recording 36 assists to keep CCNY's attackers in rhythm. Defensively, the Beavers were solid across the board, totaling 11 team blocks and 26 digs to neutralize Old Westbury's offensive threats.
Old Westbury was led by Torrence Fredericks, who posted nine kills, and Damian Villamil, who added six points, but the Panthers were unable to find consistency against CCNY's pressure.
Next, the Beavers will travel to take on the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, February 5, at 6:00 p.m.
