New York, NY - The City College of New York men's volleyball team wrapped up the weekend, dropping non-conference contests to John Jay and King's College (PA).
Match 1: John Jay 3, CCNY 1
CCNY opened the tri-match against John Jay, falling in four sets. The Beavers showed balance offensively, recording 43 kills on a .257 hitting percentage, but John Jay edged CCNY in total points and key late-set executions.
Sophomore Gabriel Linus led all CCNY hitters with 16 kills while attacking at .345, providing consistent pressure on the outside. Sophomore Mahmoud Tayeh added an efficient 11 points on a .538 hitting clip, and Sophomore Amir Nabiyev chipped in 8.5 points with seven kills and five total blocks.
At the net, CCNY totaled 20 blocks and was paced defensively by freshman Santiago, who anchored the offense with 35 assists and added five digs. John Jay countered with 49 kills and nine service aces, using a balanced attack to pull away in the closing sets and secure the conference win.
Match 2: King's 3, CCNY 0
In the second match of the day, CCNY faced King's College (PA) in non-conference action and was swept in three sets. CCNY finished with 31 kills but struggled to find offensive rhythm, hitting .148 as King's controlled the pace from the service line and at the net.
Nabiyev again led the Beavers with seven kills and nine digs, while Gabriel Linus posted 10.5 points, including nine kills. Tayeh contributed five kills on .500 hitting, and freshman Roman Dishmey added three kills and a block off the bench.
King's posted a .275 team hitting percentage and totaled 10 blocks, using efficient side-out play to close each set decisively.
Next, CCNY travels to take on Medgar Evers College on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
