New York, NY – The City College of New York Department of Athletics and Recreation announced the addition of softball as its newest program, marking another significant step in the continued growth and expansion of intercollegiate athletics at CCNY. The program will begin competition as a club sport during the 2026–27 academic year before officially transitioning to NCAA varsity status for the 2027–28 season.

The addition of softball reflects CCNY's commitment to expanding opportunities for female student-athletes while continuing to strengthen and elevate the department's athletic offerings. As the institution continues investing in the student-athlete experience, the launch of softball represents an important milestone in broadening participation and creating new pathways for success both on and off the field.

"Adding softball is an exciting and meaningful step for our athletics department and institution," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, Duane Bailey. "This program expands opportunities for women student-athletes and reinforces our commitment to the continued growth of intercollegiate athletics at CCNY. We are excited to build a program that reflects the pride, tradition, and excellence of the CCNY Athletics."

CCNY softball will join a new conference among Division III institutions, eight of whom are current members of the CUNY Athletic Conference, along with Saint Elizabeth University and Pratt Institute, establishing a newly expanded NCAA Division III conference set to begin competition in the 2027–28 academic year. The conference, currently in the final stages of naming, branding, and incorporation, will focus on institutions located in and around the New York City metropolitan area.
