New York, NY – The City College of New York Department of Athletics & Recreation has announced the hiring of Melissa McTurk as its new Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Eligibility.
McTurk joins CCNY after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities & Compliance and Head Women's Soccer Coach at SUNY Maritime College, where she played an integral role in overseeing NCAA Division III compliance, student-athlete eligibility, and institutional governance while leading the Privateers women's soccer program.
In her new role at CCNY, McTurk will oversee the department's NCAA compliance program, student-athlete eligibility certification, and institutional policies and procedures. She will work closely with coaches, campus partners, and the NCAA to ensure CCNY Athletics maintains the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and regulatory compliance while supporting the academic and athletic success of its student-athletes.
"We are excited to welcome Melissa to the CCNY Athletics family," said Director of Athletics Duane Bailey. "Her experience in NCAA compliance, eligibility certification, and athletic administration makes her an outstanding addition to our leadership team. Melissa understands the importance of institutional control while maintaining a student-athlete-centered approach, and she will play a vital role in supporting the continued growth and success of our department."
At SUNY Maritime, McTurk was responsible for certifying student-athlete eligibility for practice and competition by verifying academic progress, enrollment status, grade-point averages, and progress-toward-degree requirements. She also monitored recruiting activities, seasons of participation, amateurism status, transfer eligibility, and NCAA regulations while administering NCAA waivers, self-reports, and corrective-action plans to ensure institutional compliance and audit readiness.
Beyond compliance, McTurk coordinated athletic facilities, event operations, and game management, serving as a key liaison among coaches, university departments, officials, visiting teams, and campus partners. She also helped oversee facility scheduling, transportation logistics, and external facility rentals while leading SUNY Maritime's first comprehensive athletics rebranding initiative.
As Head Women's Soccer Coach, McTurk guided all aspects of the program, including recruiting, player development, academic monitoring, budgeting, fundraising, and team operations. Her experience as both an administrator and coach provides her with a comprehensive understanding of the student-athlete experience and the importance of compliance in fostering competitive success and academic achievement.
A native of Ronkonkoma, New York, McTurk earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Coaching Management from Dowling College, where she was a four-year starter and senior captain for both the women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. Prior to SUNY Maritime, she served as an assistant women's soccer coach at the New York Institute of Technology and at Saint Anthony's High School, helping guide Saint Anthony's to a New York State Championship in 2018.
