BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The City College of New York men's soccer team opened CUNYAC play in impressive fashion on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Brooklyn College, 3-1, at Brooklyn College Field.
With the victory, CCNY improves to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-0 in CUNYAC play, while Brooklyn falls to 3-2-3 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.
The Beavers struck first in the 20th minute when Nikola Kanics found the back of the net at 19:22, giving CCNY a 1-0 advantage. Konstantinos Psomaras provided the assist on the opening goal.
CCNY carried its one-goal advantage into halftime before breaking the match open late in the second half.
In the 76th minute, Psomaras doubled the Beavers' lead, scoring his third goal of the season off a throw-in from Juan Lucero. Just over two minutes later, CCNY added another when David Caceres scored at 77:20, with Kanics earning the assist.
Brooklyn managed to get on the scoreboard in the 86th minute when Gustav Krueger scored, but the Beavers held firm over the final minutes to secure the 3-1 conference victory.
Psomaras led CCNY offensively with one goal and one assist, while Kanics also recorded a goal and an assist. Caceres added the Beavers' third goal, and Lucero contributed an assist.
In goal, Axel Vazquez played all 90 minutes and made two saves to help preserve the victory.
CCNY finished with eight shots, including five on target, while Brooklyn recorded 11 shots and three shots on goal. Both teams earned four corner kicks.
Next, the Beavers return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 26, on the road against Marywood University.
