NEWARK, N.J. — The City College of New York women's soccer team opened its 2026 season on the road Friday evening, falling to Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in the opening match of the Brick City Classic.
The Beavers battled throughout the contest but were unable to find the back of the net, as Rutgers-Newark's offense produced three goals while limiting CCNY to one shot on the evening.
Rutgers-Newark opened the scoring in the first half, with Vielka Fernandez finding the back of the net to give the Scarlet Raiders an early advantage. Fernandez added her second goal later in the match, while Samantha Vieira also scored and added an assist to account for Rutgers-Newark's three goals.
CCNY goalkeeper Jade Salas kept the Beavers within striking distance, recording six saves over 73:32 in goal. Elsa Gashi finished the contest in goal for CCNY, playing the final 16:28.
Offensively, Valeria Diaz registered CCNY's lone shot of the match.
CCNY will look to bounce back in its next contest as the Beavers close out the weekend agansi Kean University on Sunday.
