Jackee Meadow took over as the Director of Athletics at the City College of New York in November of 2006, and has served as head coach of the women's basketball team since February 2012. Meadow’s passion, competitive nature, and her vision are all essential qualities that have bolstered her remarkable career. Her knowledge of the City University of New York Athletic Conference is insurmountable as she nears her second decade of coaching in the conference.
As the Athletic Director at City College, Meadow has instituted a “One Team, One Dream” mantra, which quickly became a philosophy amongst the 250+ student-athletes across 17 athletics teams. Her dedication to teaching teamwork, camaraderie, and life-skills has resulted in her creation of several successful support services at City College including an extremely successful “Bounce-Back” Retention Program and “G.A.M.E.S.” (Giving Athletes Motivation through Educational Services) workshops. Under her guidance the Student Athletic Advisory Committee at CCNY has begun to flourish, bringing about many exciting and instrumental changes to the City College campus and community.
Meadow’s goal of “developing the student-athlete as a total person, enhancing their well being and empowering them to be leaders in life”, is reflected in the Coaches and Captains Retreats that she started in 2009. The athletic facilities on campus have also seen improvement under Meadow, with newly renovated locker rooms and a new hardwood floor that has become the home of the CUNYAC/Con-Ed Basketball Championships.
Meadow came to City College after working as the Associate Athletic Director of the Recreation & Intramural Program at Hunter College for nearly 17 years and Head Women’s Basketball Coach for 13 years. In those 13 years as the head coach Meadow led the Hawks to eight regular season league titles, five conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and two ECAC bids. With these accomplishments Meadow become the winningest women’s basketball coach in school history, as well as the first coach to lead Hunter to a bid in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
While catapulting the Hawks to conference and regional recognition as one of the premier and dominant teams in the Metropolitan area, Meadow was awarded the CUNYAC Coach of the Year three times, was named as the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, and in 2003 earned the prestigious Metropolitan Writers Association Division III Coach of the Year honor.
Meadow’s dedication to service extends far beyond the Athletics department. She currently serves on four CUNYAC Committees (Chair, Eligibility Committee; Strategic Plan Committee, Championships Committee, and Finance Committee) as well as three University Committees (Student Affairs Student Involvement, College Search Committee and President’s Cross-Functional Student Retention Committee). She is a past member of the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Committee (2006-2010), NCAA Division III Representative of the Atlantic Region Committee (1996- 1998), and ECAC Metro NY/NJ Women’s Basketball East Region Committee (1996-1998). Her affiliations include the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, National Intramural Recreation Sports Association, National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Meadow is a native of New York City, and earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (1987) at Oneonta State College, where she had a solid playing career. She earned her M.S. Ed. in Recreation Administration from Lehman College in 1996.
