Marcello Di Russo

Marcello Di Russo was named head coach of the CCNY women's basketball program in April of 2024 after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons (2021-24).

"I'm deeply grateful and honored for the opportunity to continue my journey at The City College of New York as the new head coach of the women's basketball program," said Di Russo. "My gratitude extends to the Athletic Department and all the previous coaches who have been instrumental in leading our student-athletes throughout the recent years."

Di Russo takes over the programs after serving as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. Since joining CCNY, he has been the lead assistant, overseeing recruiting, team and player skill development, scouting, and team operations. 

Before CCNY, Di Russo served as an assistant coach at LaGuardia Community College (2015-16), Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School (2017-2018), and Five Towns College (2019-21).

Di Russo spent one season with the Red Hawks at LaGuardia, helping lead the program to its first-ever CUNYAC Championship in 2016. The team finished the season with a program-best 23-8 overall record, producing the 2016 CUNYAC Community College Player and two All-Conference players. The Red Hawks were ranked nationally throughout the season, reaching as high as 11th in the NJCAA DIII Poll.

Di Russo has experience coaching internationally. He served as an assistant coach for the Italian Basketball Federation Youth National team for two seasons (2009-11) and as the head coach, assistant coach, and program director of Juve Pallacanestro Pontedera, a national youth team in Pontedera, Italy (2011-15). 

Di Russo holds coaching certification from USA Basketball, the Italian Basketball Federation, and a Diploma from SportsTec® Bologna.

Di Russo earned his undergraduate degree in music composition from Brooklyn College in 2020 and earned his master's degree in Art Administration from Baruch College in 2023.
