Daniel Colon

The City College of New York has announced that Daniel Colon, a proud alumnus and decorated grassroots program leader, has been named the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Interim Director of Athletics Karina Jorge announced.

Colon, a 2014 graduate of CCNY and former standout guard for the Beavers, returns to his alma mater with over a decade of coaching and administrative experience across some of the most competitive basketball platforms in the region. A respected figure in New York’s basketball community, Colon was named one of Silverwaves Media’s Top 100 Most Influential Grassroots Directors in 2025 and is the co-founder of the Academic Elite Showcase, a platform for high-academic student-athletes. He is also a three-time national champion coach at the grassroots level (2014, 2016, 2018).

Colon’s coaching journey includes impactful stints at La Salle Academy, Iona Prep, and Cardinal Hayes, where he developed championship-caliber teams and mentored dozens of student-athletes who advanced to college programs. During his time at La Salle, Colon helped guide the team to a New York City, State, and Federation Championships in 2019. He also previously served as an Assistant Coach at CCNY from 2011–2013, gaining collegiate-level experience in recruitment, player development, and game preparation.

Colon currently serves as the Director of Athletics for the Riverside Hawks Basketball Program, one of the nation’s premier grassroots organizations dedicated to youth development and community impact. He leads all facets of the program, from designing and executing long-term strategies that enhance player development and performance to supervising and mentoring a diverse coaching staff. Under his leadership, the program has achieved measurable growth across all levels. Colon manages the organizational budget, spearheads fundraising efforts—including corporate sponsorships and donor campaigns—and oversees large-scale events that expand community reach and visibility.
