The City College of New York women's soccer team fell 4-1 against College of Staten Island on Saturday at Randall's Island.
Before the match, head coach,
Heather Ruger, took time to honor the eight senior student-athletes for their contribution to CCNY. These seniors included
Taylor Jo Gillen,
Christina Rock,
Margot Salas,
Qiumei Zhang,
Emily Ramos,
Anna Elias, and senior captains
Juliet Shubaev and
Elif Demircan.
Starting in goal,
Marissa Olsen, tallied nine saves in the first half. CSI played a dominating first half where they took 18 shots. City College was able to put up three big shots in the first half, but none of them were on goal. CSI (8-2-0, 4-1-0 CUNYAC) struck first to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.
They continued to maintain possesion of the ball during the first half and put up two more shots to go up 3-0 at halftime.
Emily Ramos started as goalie for the second half. With Ramos in goal, that gave Olsen an opportunity to play the field. She took that as scored her fourth goal of the season on a pass from
Juliet Shubaev. Only down 3-1, the Beavers continued to look for a victory. The Dolphins scored one more time in the second half to take the match 4-1.
Ramos put up eight big saves in the second half. The Beavers took five shots in the match, with two of them on goal. CSI goalkeeper, Kristy Colangelo, was able to get her hand on one for the Beavers to only obtain one goal.
The Beavers will travel to face non-conference opponent Stockton University on Monday, October 12 at 4 p.m.
