Haider & Muniz Lift Men's Soccer Over Baruch

The City College of New York men's soccer team defeated Baruch 2-0 on Wednesday in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.

If the score didn't make you believe the matchup was intense, the fact that there was only one shot taken in the first 10 minutes should give you an idea of the defense the two teams put up. City (7-7-0, 4-3-0 CUNYAC) picked up a goal on their first shot of the match.

At the 13', Anthony Scarallo had a throw in. He threw the ball into the box where Syed Haider headed the ball into the bottom right corner. The goal was Haider's second on the season.

The remainder of the first half included both teams fighting for a goal. During an intense conference matchup, CCNY remained in control during the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Maxwell Berkow recorded one save, from the only shot Baruch put on goal.

Baruch (8-7-0, 5-3-0 CUNYAC) controlled the ball for most of the second half, but City took advantage of their possessions. Mostafa Haridi dished out an assist to Kevin Muniz who scored his first goal of the season to give the Beavers a 2-0 advantage. Berkow put up a great effort defensively as he helped CCNY maintain their lead.

Berkow tallied seven saves in the victory. The Beavers took 11 shots with four on goal.

The team will finish their regular season conference schedule against Medgar Evers on Saturday, October 24 at 9:30 a.m. The match will take place on Randall's Island Field #91.
