The City College of New York men's soccer team defeated Berkeley College (NY) 4-1 on Monday evening at Randall's Island in New York, New York.
City (4-6-0, 1-2-0 CUNYAC) quickly struck first. The Beavers got the opportunity off a corner kick.
Lanfia Diaby took the corner kick that resulted in a header by
Syed Haider that he was able to knock into the bottom left corner to put the Beavers up 1-0.
Not long after that
Kenan Redzematovic tallied his sixth goal of the season with an assist from captain, Abdul Rashid Abdulai. The rest of the first half was a back-and-forth battle. Berkeley was able to get five shots on goal, but
Maxwell Berkow put up an impressive effort to pick up five big saves. The Beavers took a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The Knights (8-4-0) quickly struck in the second half. Solomon Ahanaonu crossed it to the right side of the box where Masahiro Kiuchi headed it right into the top right corner. City still led 2-1, but fought to remain in the lead. At the 64',
Mostafa Haridi put the Beavers up 3-1.
Anthony Scarallo threw the ball into the box, where Haridi was able to head the ball into the goal.
The Beavers put up one more goal for good measure.
Lanfia Diaby got the ball from Redzematovic who got it directly from Berkow to get the ball into the left corner for a 4-1 advantage.
Berkow recorded 10 saves in the victory, while improving to 3-6-0 when in goal.
The team will face conference opponent Hunter on Wednesday, October 7 at 4 p.m. The match will take place on Randall's Island at Field #91.
