The City College of New York men's soccer team defeated Hunter College 1-0 on Wednesday evening on Randall's Island.

Starting with the whistle the conference matchup proved to be a test for both teams.  Both City (5-6-0, 2-2-0 CUNYAC) and Hunter (5-7-0, 2-3-0 CUNYAC) fought hard for a victory. While there was a lot of back-and-forth action, both teams continued to put shots on goal. Maxwell Berkow came up with a big save in the 24'. The Hawks got a penalty kick, but Berkow was able to get a hand on it and get it out of the box. The remainder of the first half continued to be a hard fought battle between the conference foes. It remained tied 0-0 going into halftime.

With the weight of a 0-0 match on their hands, City quickly figured out a way to change that. Kenan Redzematovic gave an easy pass to Luis Castillo right in the middle of the box. Castillo was able to get the ball right past the goalkeeper to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. City remained in control of the match for the rest of the second half. The Beavers picked up their second conference victory.

Berkow picked up six saves, all coming in the first half. The defense held them to only four shots, while none were on goal during the second half.

The team will continue their conference schedule against Lehman on Saturday, October 10 at Lehman. The match is set for 2 p.m.
